![]() Foregoing the chapter 1 material would not have mattered as much if only they didn't screw this one detail up. The first few moments of their interaction set the tone. It may sound silly, but that's really it. In the anime, it takes a long bit before that 'pointless kill' thing sets off Gon's memory, and Gon subsequently jogs Kite's memory. As a matter of fact, Kite recognizes Gon before he even turns around, before the next page even reveals that he is Kite. In the manga, Gon and Kite's reactions to each other are instant. They don't recognize each other right away. I believe the reason people don't feel Gon's connection to Kite as much when they first experience it through the 2011 is simple: I had an epiphany when I was comparing the anime and the manga back to back a few weeks ago. In conclusion, the 2011 may not have done things the same as the manga or the 1999 version, but it still did it justice. For me all these scenes and more made it feel believable and not contrived. Gon being shrouded in darkness saying he wants to fight Pitou by himself. The death of Kite, his mentor and idol, signifies the death of his childhood and innocence.Īfter seeing Kite's corpse as a puppet we are given multiple scenes that slowly buildup Gon's rage at Pitou. It was his first time going through the five stages of grief. Again it is not his fault because he is a kid that gets thrown into the dark world of Hunter x Hunter. Even before Kite's death we are show signs that even though Gon is a good natured person, there were moments that he was unhinged. Slowly we see him slipping away and losing his innocence. Unlike Killua, he has never witnessed the cruelty and harshness of the world. Gon brings up that moment again when Kite's corpse punches him.Ģ) Kite's death was the first major loss of a loved one Gon ever witnessed in his life.Īt the very start of the show it is established that Gon is this innocent, young, optimistic kid. That was more than what Ging did for him at that age. He almost got killed by that Foxbear and Kite saved him and taught him a lesson for being in that situation in the first place. He remembers the moment Kite punched him specifically because for him that was a lesson he won't forget. In the very episode Kite is introduced, the show establishes that Gon knew Kite from a very young age. For me the 2011 version explained the following properly:ġ) Kite was the closest thing to a father figure Gon ever had. I never read the manga or watched 1999 version before, but I never got that impression. The criticism I noticed people have is that Gon goes overdramatic and feels too much for Kite, "a guy he just met for a week' in the 2011 anime. As of episode 148, the anime has reached chapter 339.Where's the anime in relation to the manga?. ![]() Furthermore, use the spoiler button if there are spoilers inside your link/text post.
